China’s CNPC Natural Gas Project in Mozambique Delayed

The final investment decision for the Rovuma LNG natural gas project, in Mozambique, which was scheduled for this year, has been postponed, announced US group ExxonMobil, that partners with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for the project. The decision is part of the measures to respond to the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Beijing-Lisbon flight by Beijing Capital Airlines (BCA), had support from the Portuguese and Chinese governments, but lasted a little over a year, until October 2018, due to BCA's parent companies financial difficulties. Despite turmoil in the aviation industry, it is now set to resume.

According to a study from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTP), almost all African countries should have more than 1,000 cases by 1 May. Angola, Mozambique and Cabo Verde are among those where the number of infections is expected to peak later.

Sociedade Mineira de Catoca has laid off most of its workers and suspended work at its new concessions, as part of measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. For the same reason, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Oil postponed the selection of the proposal in the international public tender for the construction of an oil refinery in Soyo, Zaire province.
