Portuguese textile manufacturers expect stronger demand from Japan

 

Portuguese textile manufacturers expect stronger demand from Japan in the next few months, following contacts at Jitac – European Textile Fair, in Tokyo.

“The quality of the offer presented by the Portuguese manufacturers and the competitive conditions, especially in relation to the Italian offer, make us foresee the reinforcement of orders” from Japan, the Portuguese Textiles Association (ATP) said.

Portuguese companies were represented by agents at Jitac and, ATP adds, the “demand for Portuguese manufacturers was remarkable”. Representatives from Portugal´s trading agency, AICEP, also reported a very specific demand by manufacturers From Portugal.

“In addition to the quality that Japanese buyers have long recognized in Made in Portugal, the situation also seems to favorable, especially given the offer from Italians”, ATP says.

On the one hand, Portuguese companies seem to gain ground in lead time, being able to respond to orders more quickly, while an increase in prices is also slower than that of competitors.

“The balance of these three days of fair is very positive. It is clear that possible orders are not immediate, but the way in which buyers were specifically and purposefully looking for Portuguese manufacturers is an excellent indicator”, it adds.

Portuguese Companies Attend Tokyo Jitac Textile Fair

In all, there were nine Portuguese brands present at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center: Albano Morgado, Burel Factory, Fitecom, Lemar, Otojal and Troficolor, joined by Adalberto, Paulo de Oliveira and Riopele.

The participation of Portuguese SME companies in JITAC is another initiative by Selectiva Moda within the scope of the project that aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese companies in the textile and fashion area.
