Chinese government suspends imports of chicken meat from plants in Brazil

The Chinese government suspended imports of chicken meat from two plants in Brazil, a few weeks after it resumed Brazilian beef imports.

According to the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), the two plants are Bello Alimentos in Itaquiraí, and São Salvador Alimentos (Super Frango), in Itaberaí. The halt to purchases took effect on Monday, indefinetly, and no reason was presented for the decision.

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture (pictured above) confirmed the suspension by China highlighting, however, that its technical services “disagree with the decision adopted by the Chinese health authority.” According to a statement, Brazil “will present the technical information to reverse the suspension” to GACC.

China’s customs resume imports of beef products from Brazil

In December, China had suspended imports of chicken meat from a BRF unit in Marau, after in August it halted imports of pork and poultry from another BRF unit in Lucas do Rio Verde. Suspensions have involved producers from several countries, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Brazilian beef exports jumped in January, with the resumption of purchases from China. According to the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), last month beef exports grew 31%.
