In recent weeks, the government of Mozambique has been involved in intense negotiations with seven countries to secure funding for one of its largest natural gas projects and overcome scepticism about whether it will honour its debt commitments.

Mozambique’s slow burning coal revolution has triggered a wave of rail and port projects across the northern half of the country. The presence of coal reserves in Tete Province had long been known but the lack of transport capacity prevented mining in the area until relatively recently.
