Xi Jinping ready to work with Timor-Leste counterpart to take relations to a “new level”

 

The President of China, Xi Jinping, is ready to work with his Timor-Leste counterpart, newly-elected José Ramos-Horta,  to take relations to a “new level”.

In a statement congratulating Ramos-Horta (pictured above) on the election, for the second time, as head of state of Timor-Leste, Xi noted that in the past 20 years, since China and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations, the two countries “continuously deepened” their “practical cooperation” and “greatly developed” bilateral relations.

The Chinese president said he attached “great importance” to the development of bilateral relations, and that he “is ready” to work with his counterpart to develop relations to a “new level”, according to the statement published by Xinhua.

Xi Jinping further pointed out that the cooperation produced “tangible benefits” for the two peoples, in a “living demonstration” of an “equitable relationship” between a large country and a small country.
