South China Agricultural University and Brazil´s Araucária Foundation Join Efforts in Science

 

Brazil´s Araucária Foundation and the South China Agricultural University will deepen scientific cooperation, under a new deal.

The Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed during an online forum focused on science, technology and innovation in China and Brazil, in which participated also the New Technology Development Center, the Chinese Society of Mathematics and other Brazilian and Chinese partners.

“We have the great possibility of establishing partnerships with China, through the province of Guangdong, in which the cities of Hangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen are located”, said the president of the Araucária Foundation, Ramiro Wahrhaftig. “This Forum we are holding foresees this strategic cooperation in some areas of knowledge that are important to Paraná (state capital Curitiba pictured above), which are the transversal ones: digital transformation and sustainable development, and the vertical ones: linked to Agro, health and the generation of renewable energy”, he added.

Brazil and China in Talks to Strengthen Science and Technology Ties

The Forum´s main goal was to identify links between the participating institutions to leverage and establish partnerships in Agriculture and Water, Advanced Medical Treatment and Digital Health, Sustainable Energy and Innovation and Genomics and Genetic Engineering.

According to the president of the National Council of State Foundations for Research Support (CONFAP), Odir Dellagostin, “China is a leader in the area of ​​science and technology, therefore, cooperation between researchers from these two countries is extremely important” and “an opportunity to establish partnerships in the field of research that can bring benefits to both countries”.

The director of the Kunming Office of Science and Technology (BRICS Technology Transfer Centre), Wang Jian, said the Forum “fostered the process of international collaboration”.   The president of Dongguan University of Technology, Ma Hongwei, also attended.

Brazil to Draft New Bilateral Cooperation Plan With China

The event was also attended by Qin Jiuyi, deputy director of the Center for the Development of New Technologies, Chinese Science and Technology Association; Celso de Tarso Pereira, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Brazil in Beijing; Cao Jinghua, Executive Director, ANSO Secretariat, Alliance of International Science Organization; Wang Yong, president of Dongguan South China Design Innovation Institute.

Also in attendance were Dong Guo, Second Secretary of CTI at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brazil; Frederico Salomão Duque Estrada Meyer, Ambassador, Consul of Brazil in Guangzhou and José Roberto de Andrade Filho, Councilor of the Science, Technology and Innovation Section of the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing.

Organized by the Araucaria Foundation and the New Technology Development Center – Chinese Mathematical Society, the event had the support of Dongguan South China Design Innovation Institute, Network for International Cooperation on Technology Commercialization NICTC.
