FDI Stock in Portugal Increases by 6.2 percent in 2023 to EUR 180.4 billion

The stock of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Portugal recorded an increase of 6.2 percent at the end of December 2023 compared with the same period of the previous year, reaching 180.4 billion euros.

Spain was the main immediate investor, accounting for 19.7 percent  of the total FDI stock in Portugal, according to official data.

This was followed by the Netherlands with 19.5 percent and Luxembourg with 18 percent. The European Union held 76.3 percent  of the FDI stock in Portugal at the end of 2023.

Non-European Buyers Boosting Portugal Property Market

The United Kingdom stood out as the main non-EU investor, contributing 6.9 percent  of the total FDI stock.

Regarding the distribution by sectors of activity, Financial and Insurance Activities lead the attraction of investment, representing 21.2 percent of the total FDI stock.
