CRRC Tangshan With Most Competitive Bid for Lisbon Metro Carriage Supply

by: Jessica Ferreira

Metropolitano de Lisboa has received two bids for the supply of 24 new triple units (72 carriages), including an option for 12 more, as part of the international public tender launched in November last year, with a baseline budget of EUR 138 million.

According to the public company, the bids were submitted by CRRC Tangshan, from China, which presented an offer of around EUR 115 million, and Stadler Rail Valencia, from Switzerland, which made a proposal of EUR 134 million.

In a statement, Metro de Lisboa recalls that this procedure, co-financed by European funds and the Environmental Fund, has a contractual execution period of 54 months.

The competition is intended to respond to the expected increase in demand for the Lisbon metro network in the coming years due to the new extension projects for the Circular line and Red line to Alcântara.

The decision to purchase 12 additional triple units (36 carriages) “is due to the need to continually replace end-of-life rolling stock, thus ensuring the flexibility and interoperability of the entire fleet”, explained Metropolitano de Lisboa.
