China and Timor-Leste relations “model for large and small countries treated as equals”

 

China and Timor-Leste relations are a “model for large and small countries to treat each other as equals”, the Chinese ambassador to Dili has said.

Xiao Jianguo (pictured above, center) said that the two countries will seize the the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022 as an opportunity to “create a better future for bilateral relations”.

In statements quoted by China Radio International, Xiao said that the two sides will expand and deepen practical cooperation in various areas and strive to push the comprehensive cooperation partnership of good neighborly, trust and mutual benefit to a new level.

China supports Timor-Leste´s ‘early entry’ to ASEAN

The ambassador stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral relations have always shown a trend of healthy and stable development, becoming a model for large and small countries to treat each other as equals, to support each other and cooperate in a win-win manner.

Xiao added that the Chinese side has always attached importance to its bilateral relations with Timor-Leste and respects the country’s independent choice of model and development path.

Since the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic, the two countries have been helping each other and fighting together against the pandemic, the diplomat stated.
